Describe your path to becoming who you are today. I felt strongly that I needed help and support, but I couldn’t find women anywhere to connect to. I heard about Reconciliation Services SNaP program and I went over to scope it out. I was excited because I needed it and I enrolled immediately. Women in our community need proper programs to help us rise above our circumstances and conditions and we need practical support to help us succeed.
Tell me about your experience in SNAP. First I met other women and got to hear their stories and shared mine. That’s life giving in itself. I found we had common experiences and we started to connect. I felt understood and less alone. There’s no judgment or anything negative, just lots of encouragement from everyone. I felt supported and I started to believe for change. I had hope! I learned practical tools that I could apply to life and I had a group where we could all share our successes and struggles along the way. I am a very social person, but I didn’t have support like this outside of RS.
Was there a point where you took a risk to move forward? Of course, putting yourself out there with a group of people you don’t know and admitting you need help is vulnerable, you don't know what to expect. I just followed my gut, I wanted something different for my life and I guess I wanted it bad. The risk was worth it, I’m applying the tools I learned in SNaP and I’m succeeding.
What advice would you share with other women? Face your fears, be willing to go for it, even though you're afraid. Carve a path for what you want for you and your family and connect to programs and people who will work hard with you to help you succeed.
